The Gift of Preparedness

I’m Jamie Caplan and my emergency preparedness gift boxes help people to stay safe in emergencies. As an emergency management professional, I know first hand that a crisis can happen at any time. As a mom, I can’t bear the thought of my family (and dogs) not having what they need when it does.

Being prepared is not just for rare acts of terrorism, floods, hurricanes, tornados, and earthquakes; it is also for losing power for more than a few hours due to a snowstorm, thunderstorm, fire, or even a car crashing into a nearby utility pole or being stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire or car that won't start.

The Federal Department of Homeland Security is trying to get people to prepare for the unexpected by having everyone put together an emergency supply kit. But this can feel like another task on the “to do list”.
